Music and Art at First Presbyterian

Psalm 150
‘Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to His exceeding greatness! Praise Him with trumpet sound; praise Him with lute and harp! Praise Him with timbrel and dance; praise Him with strings and pipe! Praise I'm with sounding cymbals; praise Him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!’

First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs values the artistic talents of all forms of art such as drama, visual art, and music. Our worship services incorporate these art forms in different ways: banners, colored fabrics that correspond to the liturgical season, special decorations; drama projects such as tableaus and skits; vocal and instrumental music such as choral, handbell ringing, and solo performances.

CHANCEL CHOIR sings every Sunday through September-May. During the summer months, June-August, the choir meets to sing for four Sundays. This ‘Summer Choir’ is formed by seasonal members, regular members, and guests. The Sundays the choir sings in the Summer is posted in advance so singers can plan accordingly. The Chancel Choir’s regular rehearsal time is 7-8:30pm every Wednesday evening, and 9am call time on Sunday mornings. Their repertoire includes works of a range of styles and difficulty. Everyone is welcomed to join our choir!

KIRK RINGERS is the handbell choir of this church formed by devoted ringers of all ages. They rehearse every Wednesday evening at 5:30-6:45pm, and perform intermittently throughout the year during worship services. To join this ensemble music reading is necessary, and previous bell ringing experience is welcome.

Children and Music absolutely go together. Our offerings for children through  Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and our Kids Club offer opportunities to explore music and bring enrichment to our worship services.

Located in a Community blessed by a unique cultural heritage, FPCHS is thrilled to host many gifted artists and groups. When the current church building was finished in 1994, the sanctuary was noted for its excellent acoustic qualities, and has since become a regular venue for such organizations as the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and the Little Traverse Choral Society. We also frequently host many special musical concerts and events featuring performers and ensembles from the Bay View Music Festival, Central Michigan University and Alma College.

Prayers Needed?
Do you know someone who you would like to be added to our prayer list or who needs a visitation? Please let them know first, and then call the office (526-7332). We will ask for the correct name spelling and any other information that they would like to be shared with our Deacons. Stephen Ministers are also available to support these needs.
